Ruki was never affectionate – at least, not with other people. Though he would always be able to express his thoughts, emotions, everything that he stands for with his haunting lyrics and writing, it wasn’t the case with talking to other people. Sometimes his words strike others as blunt and crude. Oftentimes he wouldn’t speak at all, but of course that’s just his introversion. But most artists are just like that, he’d always argue, then leave the scene with a huff and a scowl on his face.
Needless to say he wasn’t a very approachable person.
He was very much aware of that character of his and lately it’s been bothering him. Every time people tried talking to him, he’d always rub them off the wrong way and he’d end up all alone, with people trying their hardest not to meet his gaze. What triggered this was the talk Uruha, Reita and Kai had at the lounge while they watched some nature channel (for reasons Ruki couldn’t understand). Poor Ruki just went to the washroom for a couple of minutes and this was what he got.
“I’m actually scared to go near Ruki now,” was what he heard Uruha say in a hushed tone, back facing the door.
From that distance Ruki could perfectly see Reita sigh. “Yeah, sometimes I think Ruki’s having PMS,” the blond agreed, and Kai just nodded.
And that broke his little heart. He searched in his mind what it is that he did to those three to make them talk like that behind his back. Was it the time that he accidentally spilled coffee over Uruha’s shirt because of his drowsiness (little did he know he was glaring all day that day), or the way that he shoved his arm while passing the hallway (but he was blocking the hallway, and it was rush time too so he had to get to the station early)? As for Reita, Ruki couldn’t remember what he’d done to him, maybe except that time when he switched the TV off while he was playing a game because it was getting noisy and he had to work on some lyrics. To Kai, he did nothing in particular… maybe just shout at him every now and then…
“Aoi’s the only one who hasn’t fallen victim to him.” Ruki heard Kai add with a shake of the head.
True enough, Aoi’s the only one whom he really hasn’t scared off yet. There was this sense of senior-junior between the two of them, considering their age, despite the fact that Ruki was one of the founding fathers of this band, and it was this kind of relationship that made him snap less at the elder… probably. In any case, he wasn’t going to let Aoi think badly of him as well.
The sound of approaching footsteps startled Ruki a bit, and when he turned back, he saw it was Aoi, smiling like the dork that he was and offering a silent greeting with the wave of a hand. He knew he had to act now before he totally loses Aoi too, but what to do, what to do, what to do…
“‘Sup,” the older man asked, not really expecting any answer as he passed by Ruki. The vocalist however just continued to rack his brain for ideas on how to show that he was just as friendly and expressive and approachable as everybody else. He turned towards the inside of the room, and finally he thought of something, praying it would work.
“WHAT THE FUCK MAN!” Aoi exclaimed as he almost fell face first on the floor as he stumbled his way into the room. Uruha, Reita, and Kai just stared dumbfoundedly at him, who had Ruki riding his back.
“I’m being affectionate,” Ruki answered quietly, even with a hint of seriousness in his voice, as he clung tighter to the older man.
The other three there laughed so hard while Ruki just stayed clinging to Aoi’s back, and Aoi just glared at them.
“Ruki,” Kai managed to say coherently, “If you want to be affectionate, don’t take ideas from the nature channel.”
Aoi turned his head towards the television, seeing just the cutest of scenes and for this he forgave Ruki, convincing himself that the younger’s mind simply worked in a different way.
